The HealthPartners Institute Dermatology Residency Program opened in 2019, and is housed in a large multispecialty group located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, MN. The program is fully accredited by the ACGME, and our first class of residents graduated in 2022. Learn more about our residents by clicking the Current Residents tab. We have more than 50 Dermatologists practicing in our department, many of whom have rich experience in teaching residents. Several are recipients of teaching awards.

We greatly value our resident physicians as our colleagues. To this end, a significant portion of the clinics that our residents work in are continuity style, where residents have their own panels of patients that they will follow longitudinally over three years. They will, of course, receive support and supervision of a dedicated faculty, appropriate for their level of training.

We have a socioeconomic and ethnically diverse patient population across our teaching sites. The three most common languages spoken after English are Spanish, Somali and Hmong. We typically have live interpreters for most clinic visits and/or video visits.

Our primary clinic locations are bustling sites of the Dermatology department of the HealthPartners and Park Nicollet Medical Groups. The primary clinic sites are located in St. Louis Park, Burnsville, Maple Grove, and St. Paul, MN, all of which are in the Twin Cities Metro Area. In addition to our primary clinical sites, we have a free-standing dedicated patch test clinic, Dermatopathology at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and at Park Nicollet clinic in St. Louis Park, and inpatient consultations at Methodist Hospital and Regions Hospital. Our residents spend time at each of these locations in addition to working with our Mohs surgeons and cosmetic Dermatologists. Our inpatient experience is somewhat unique in that all consultations are virtual-our residents work collaboratively with the inpatient hospital teams and an outside group of teledermatologists to complete these consults.

HealthPartners named a Top 15 Health System

• HealthPartners was named a Top 15 Health System by IBM Watson Health for the third year in a row.
• It is the only health care system in the Twin Cities to receive this recognition.
• Researchers evaluated nearly 3,000 hospitals to identify those with the best clinical outcomes, the highest patient satisfaction and the lowest costs.

Our Mission

We support and educate our resident physicians to become productive and respected dermatologists within their medical communities. Improving health and well-being in partnership with our patients is the mission of our integrated health care system, and the basis of training our resident physicians to provide comprehensive and compassionate dermatologic care, with consideration for cost of care. We provide a nurturing, collegial and collaborative environment for our resident physicians to become competent in all aspects of dermatologic medicine and cutaneous surgery. Our resident physicians will become engaged in life-long learning through a program that integrates the ACGME core competencies into daily practice. We are committed to building the foundation for our future colleagues to make important contributions to the field of dermatology, through committed clinical practice and/or academic pursuits.
